About Dr. Almendras

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 16 years of clinical experience. I have worked in inpatient, residential and intensive outpatient programs with adults and adolescents struggling with severe mental illness and substance use disorders. I have provided treatment for high risk youth and adult and children survivors of abuse. I taught undergraduate and graduate-level psychology courses and served as a clinical supervisor for doctoral level psychology trainees, interns and post-doctoral fellows in a program accredited by the American Psychological Association. As an advocate for those with mental illness and substance use disorders, I served as a subject matter expert in working with the state to implement Federal Parity Law, making the process of obtaining mental health services more equitable for those who need it.

In my private practice, I work with adults, adolescents and children, using a variety of methods, including psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy and other evidence-based practices to help clients reach their goals, depending on individual needs. I value a collaborative, strength-based approach so that each client can achieve a greater sense of empowerment in their process towards healing. I effectively work with a wide array of psychological and emotional difficulties, including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety and Stress
  • Grief
  • Behavioral Problems
  • Academic Concerns
  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Trauma and Abuse
  • Substance Use
  • Relationship, Intimacy and Commitment Issues
  • Self-defeating and Destructive Patterns
